A Day With Sunshine and Flowers
A Day With Sunshine and Flowers at the South Coast Botanic Garden.
What Could Be Better?
It’s springtime here in Southern California and the perfect time to get up close and personal with Mother Nature. Paul Lasman and Steve Jordan are not only Village volunteers but also volunteer at the South Coast Botanic Garden. They thought a private tram tour would be a good idea and made it happen. Paul was ‘conductor’ and Steve provided the commentary.
“The Garden is large, 87 acres, and the tram road circles the property. It is sort of like going to Disneyland and riding on their railroad-you get to see what’s available and then go back to what you want to explore on foot,” said one of the Villagers who took the tour. "The highlight is the newly renovated rose garden but other areas include Japanese garden with koi pond, vegetable garden, desert garden, ‘garden for the senses’ and Mediterranean garden."
After the tour everyone got together for lunch, which was a ‘bring your own brown bag’ affair. In addition to nourishment, it also provided a chance for members and volunteers to meet and chat with board members Carolynn Petru, Ann Shaw and Lynn Solomita. And as folks went out to explore on their own the ‘May Grey” overcast yielded to a bit of sunshine.
