Local Scholars Lecture Series **Virtual**

About this event

Don't miss "Astrophotography:  Adventures in Time & Distance," our first lecture in our new "Local Scholars Lecture Series" in partnership with Omnilore Learning in Retirement.

Join us on Zoom on Wednesday, February 28th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.  Enjoy a live 40-minute PowerPoint presentation from Omnilore member Ralph Ford who will talk on "Astrophotography: Adventures in Time and Distance.” This presentation was honored by Omnilore for being one of the most outstanding given during their Fall Trimester (which just concluded in December 2023).

Ralph is a former Manhattan Beach middle school science teacher who has made a life-long hobby of astrophotography. The presentation was given during an Omnilore class centered around Neil deGrasse Tyson’s book “Origins: Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution.” Embedded in his talk will be many sample astrophotography images that Ralph as taken himself over the many years of his hobby.

I’m sure you will be amazed at the quality and technical skill of these photographs (which Ralph still calls his "amateur” astrophotography work). After the presentation, Ralph will be happy to answer any questions you have on the topic, especially those concerning the art and technology of astrophotography.
